“Parson’s BFA Program in Fashion Design offers a degree in many areas of fashion design, specializations include: Women, men, children.
The majority of the students specialize in women’s wear, those that select other areas such as children’s wear begin their work in the second year as juniors, and then finish with their senior year fully devoted to the design and development of their thesis collections. The 6 graduate’s collections you see highlighted in the petitePARADE show range from various years; the most recent, class of 2012 to class of 2011 and 2010. Mainly students that won the prestigious award of “DOY” (designer of the year) for the children’s wear category, or were finalists.
I connected with the petitePARADE organizers, as they reached out in the Spring of 2012 to our department, in search of some interns for their second show. In my role as student liaison, I recommended students from my section as well as from the junior sections. This started the idea of including Parsons graduates in the petitePARADE show taking place during the Children’s Wear Fashion Week, in October.” Francesca Sammaritano, Parsons The New School for Design
