Yay to Class of 2019!

Create & Inspire

PART II – Proud to present the work of 14 talented designers who graduate from F.I.T. NYC and continue to inspire the Childrenswear industry. From romantic vibes to teach wear, Class of 2019 got something for everyone!

I often find inspiration from the past. I like the idea of taking something old and finding a new way make it modern and fresh.
— Kelly Kenneally
I found my inspiration from astronauts. I also used astrology as a reference for my hand embroiders of constellations, rockets, shooting stars, and planets. Along with my reflective trims that allows to the garment to shine as if it was a star.
— Tiffany Rivera
My inspiration came from the movie “The Secret Garden”.  I loved the Edwardian style silhouettes of the costumes and the flowers of the garden.  I also combined with latte art designs, which can be seen in the embroidery on the apron and the cape.
— Min Yi Xu
For my collection, I was particularly inspired by a trip I took to Japan. I wanted to mix the beautiful, vibrant colors of the street signs in Tokyo with the utilitarian silhouettes of the construction workers’ uniforms in Osaka. The collection is rooted in the idea of gender neutral clothing and shoes that are fun, functional and exciting for any kid!
— Samantha Berger
I see the future of kidswear having more emphasis on childhood empowerment. Putting on clothes that one feels confident in is a simple way to start the day right.
— Noelle Ho
I see the future of kids wear going in the direction of minimalism/ following womenswear. I see a lot more kids clothes mimicking womenswear, like a mini me.
— Inesse Lee
I find my inspiration from everywhere. It can be from a conversation, book, my life, web surfing and so on. Usually, it suddenly pops up in my head. To me, finding an inspiration is the hardest process in the entire design work.
